Socially Accountable Governance for Just Energy Transition: Perspectives and Key Demands from Communities and Civil Society in Southeast Asia (2025)
This report examines progress, gaps, and opportunities that exist in the intersections of governance, justice, and energy transition in Southeast Asia by examining the role of Social Accountability (SAcc) in utility-scale Just Energy Transition (JET) projects. It is essential that these energy transition efforts are just, equitable, and inclusive, as the region transitions away from fossil fuel dependence. Drawing from a review of related literature, regional and national case studies, and the lived experiences of civil society actors, the report aims to shed light on the current landscape and pathways for social accountability in the just energy transition.
